About Me

Where Dance, Music, and Story Meet:
My Journey into Musical Theatre
I’m Sarah Genne — a teen actor, singer, and dancer passionate about bringing stories to life on stage. I’m currently training in musical theatre at Interlochen Arts Academy, where I’ve had the opportunity to perform in a wide range of productions, from classic musicals to original works. Whether I’m singing a Golden-Age Classic, tapping through a new routine, or diving into a character monologue, I love connecting with audiences through performance.
“How It All Started”
By age seven, I was already falling in love with being on stage thanks to a trio of places that shaped my early experiences: The Center for Ballet Arts, the Burke United Methodist Church Music Ministry, and Acting for Young People.
It was during that time I had what I now call my “Venn Diagram Moment.” I realized that the three things I loved most — singing, dancing, and acting — could come together to form something magical: Musical Theatre.
That idea was scribbled into a Venn diagram on the last day of a family Christmas weekend in New York City packed with Rockettes, the Sugar Plum Fairy, and skating under the Rockefeller Christmas Tree. I didn’t know it then, but that moment planted a seed.
Seven years later, I’m studying musical theatre full-time at Interlochen Arts Academy and building the skills I need to chase my dream of becoming a professional theatre actor. I’m still drawing diagrams but now they’re stage maps, blocking notes, and choreography breakdowns!

Life Between Rehearsals (and classes)
Outside of classes and rehearsals, you’ll usually find me immersed in my own personal soundtrack; whatever playlist fits the moment. Music is a huge part of how I move through the day. When my headphones are off, I’m often connecting with others: mentoring a new student in my peer group, working with classmates as a writing tutor, or helping a friend tighten their choreography.
When I’m not at Interlochen, I’m back home in the D.C. area spending time with my family, catching up with friends, and getting plenty of cuddles from my cats. I also try to stay connected to my roots by taking classes at my former dance studio and singing at my church. Being able to reconnect with the programs I grew up in helps me remember why I am on this path as a teen actor, singer, and dancer!
